Extremely unpopular opinion among web developers I guess, but most websites should not be programs.

What I love about the Web is that we've managed to wire together three languages - HTML, CSS and Javascript - that each have utterly different character-level syntaxes, down to quoting and escaping and reserved symbols, and expect the result to not just coexist in a single file, but interoperate. And then we wrap it in a fourth syntax, HTTP, and sometimes a fifth, PHP, for templating.

You'd think after 30 years we'd have invented something saner. But hello, we're humans, have you met us?

@sir what I'm basically getting at is that it's fundamentally selfish to say "I want this to be in my fave language for generally no end-user reason and fuck the practical consequences"

Social Media Platforms are a liability to the businesses that run them. Specifically, Youtube is a liability to Google's other businesses.

@viralstitch @sir

there's my (full) golang implementation. With encryption/decryption too. Want to check it out?

As for C implementation, I'd just copy everything from nacl library. Very clear code (but needs some preprocessing)

Please CW your Remembrance/Veterans/Armistice Day posts. Especially if you're going to be cynical about it, but also because I am not prepared for the emotional burden of thinking about millions of people who died unnecessarily.

"I was raised by the fae," said the fair boy with slim fingers, glowing faintly.

"I was raised by wolves," grinned the freckly girl, hair a nest of snarls; claw like nails at the tips of her limbs.

"I was raised by mermaids," confessed the dusky teen with shimmering skin and webbed fingers.

"I was raised by middle-class parents... so I can drive us all to the mall if you want?"

The unlikely friends piled in for a shopping adventure.

good post about how nerd communities' mass-adoption of the closed and proprietary Discord platform will inevitably lead to the long-term loss of (or loss of access to) mountains of special-interest group knowledge and community history

I have problems with deciding what to work on, especially for personal projects. So when @sir wrote the specification for a little cryptography utility a week ago, I figured, "I could try my hands at that." So I did. Announcing the pre-release of noseplumbs. A POSIX/c99 cryptography tool. It can currently generate keys and sign messages. Improvements welcome!
