Still thinking about Bees

There was a sign at the bees today that said "All of the honey we take from the bees is extra, they still have enough for themselves"

I was just now thinking about how if the bees make more than they need, then maybe instead of us taking it from them they could just spend less time making it. Maybe let some drone have some time off now and again.

Regardless of anthropomorphizing and metaphors about socialism, bees are neat.

There's a bug that just spontaneously builds new cities around themselves on the regular, and we provide them with both cool novel infrastructure *and* make sure that they have plenty of flowers to do whatever they want with.

@rockario Isn't this the plot of the bee movie

Still thinking about Bees

@BestGirlGrace I wasn't going to say it...but yes, absolutely.

In my version, though, the bees that want to are still able to work as much as they want. And they don't begrudge the "Jerries" who just want to be a tiny painter or whatever.

Still thinking about Bees

@rockario if the bee movie people had just been a little more socialist, maybe the movie would have been a lot better

Still thinking about Bees, veering a bit political

@BestGirlGrace Instead we just got a big message about how if people had their needs taken care of they'd just sleep all day and get depressed and society would collapse. (I may not remember how the movie actually ended, I think they just started selling the honey again?)

Still thinking about Bees, veering a bit political

@rockario "It's good to be used by capitalists" sure is a message, huh

Still thinking about Bees, veering a bit political

@BestGirlGrace "We can't give people the fruits of their labour, because they wouldn't know what to i with it. And how else would *we* get the fruit?"

Still thinking about Bees, veering a bit political

@rockario if you give the workers their fair share, and there's nothing left for the ruling class, it'll be bad for everyone because you need to make the workers work

Still thinking about Bees

@rockario i know you're probably joking but they just keep storing it because they can and are programmed to. they do so because they always want to make sure they have enough if there's a tough upcoming few months, they can't find enough nectar, they have to abandon the nest, etc etc. when they are in captivity and do not need to worry about the usual things, they will still store in extreme excess thus the safety in harvesting.

Still thinking about Bees

@root Oh absolutely, anthropomorphizing animals is fun but not how it works in reality.

I have complete faith beekeepers know what they're doing. If the bees wanna constantly make honey, let them. And let none of it go to waste.

(I say, sucking on a straw full of honey I bought at the fair)

@rockario ahaha omg i forgot about thoose those are great
